LOD question?

I have made a couple LOD's and I am going to make another one, this one will be from Ipod to 3.5mm. The other 2 were Ipod to RCA's.

I am mainly wondering if it is worth it to buy TWcu for the wire. I plan to use a Viablue 3.5mm connector and a small Ipod connector? Should I use this wire or not? And is it possible to fit the 68k resistor in the small connector? Thanks.

only you can decide whether you should buy it or not, I use TWCu extensively and find it both practical and subjectively pleasing to the ear.

yes you can fit the resistor in

Okay well I have tried solid silver cable so I might go with it just for comparison for future projects.

Just another quick little questions, the resistor connects to pin 21 and pins 11 and 15 where they are bonded together? And which side of the resistor goes on which end? Thanks.

yes, well actually you could use any of the ground pins in place of 15, but 15 is the most handy. hehe, which side of the resistor ; resistors dont have a side, resistors by nature are just a piece of material that provides a specified amount of resistance, it makes zero difference which way they are connected. maybe some audiophool somewhere would argue they are directional, but i'm yet to hear anyone even attempt to pull that off

Oops. I was thinking of capasiters I guess lol. Well do you/anyone have any pics internally of a small connector with the resistor inside? I am trying to get an idea of how cramped it is going to be and where to sort of place the resistor.

nah sorry I dont have any pics, if I want to make a small LOD I dont use the housing at all, I mold my own onto the outside of the pin assembly, but I know there is enough room, because I use them for the base of the LOD. oh actualy I might have one, hang on a bit

this one I had run out of 68k R's so put 2 together in series to get the right value, but you get the idea. this is obviously an old low profile LOD

Oh sweet. Thanks. BTW is that 24awg wire?
Here is one with a single 68k resistor in right before I hooked up the wires (24awg Mundorf in 20awg teflon tubes):

And after, hotglued in:

Fraggler, once you hot glue it how do you solder it?
Solder first, then use hotglue to secure everything (test first ). The first picture has the 11 and 15 pin soldered together with the resistor soldered to the 21 pin. The second picture is after I soldered the wires to the pins and covered it all with hot glue.

That's what I thought lol. I was wondering? Lol but that is what I do as well. I think I might order some TWCu and the Viablue connector and low profile soon so I can do this.

I actually dont think its possible to have a low profile LOD with the viablue. the mini in itself is larger than what I would call low profile. but perhaps the definition of that word has become distorted lately
