What is this retail price that everyone is talking about?... haven't found anything on TTVJ, even on that Monday that it was on sale.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

There is no retail price anymore. When they were available new, they were $429. When they were available B-stock, they were $350. Now, they're whatever the buyer and seller agree on.

Like I said before, priority wise-

perceived detail/air- RS1
tone/balance- HF2

Based on everything you have said about your preferences, I wouldn't recommend the HF2 to you if you were trying to decide between them and hadnt heard either one. The RS1 is definitely the can for you. But perceived detail is not my top priority, balance is more important to me.
My experiences simply conclude that this better detail is not perceived (with the biggest difference in the bass to mid bass region). My ears just heard things that were faint or non-existent on the HF2s. And there is the old saying: Perception = Reality.

My argument has always been that the RS1s have more attack, aggressiveness, and detail (real, not perceived)...and for me that is the best example of the Grado sound. I found the HF2's slightly too laid back, poorer bass control and less detailed cans. When it comes to Grado, I prefer the Grado colouration, not tonal balance, (I have other cans for that) that just works that work so well with rock/jazz.

That's cool, we all like different things...as they say, Baskin Robins has more than just one flavour of ice cream for that same reason.

Mine weren't perfect out of the box but the burn-in was so short I can't remember when it happened.

I've lost track of the hours put into these but I'm hearing details I didn't hear before. I can't say whether it's because my head is wrapped around their sound signature or they're simply performing better. Then again, who cares?

I'm just enamored with them at the moment. They give a very dynamic performance at a relatively low volume. The HF2's sound signature may not be as flat or refined as the RS-1, but at the moment, I'm having too much fun to care.

Just got my HF-2s today, right out of the box everything sounded tinny and uninvolving. About 5 minutes in, EVERYTHING changed, and now they're some of the most involving headphones I've heard, a ton of fun and surprisingly quite balanced (not neutral by any means, but somewhat balanced).

Would everyone here consider the HF-2 a more fun headphone to use then the RS-1? I'm stuck here in Korea and I can find both for about the same price. I've heard great things about both but I have only had a chance to listen to the RS1's...

That's a tough call.  You already know what the RS-1 sounds like.  The HF-2 is a darker and mellower.  I don't have the RS-1 around for a comparison any longer, so I can't give a direct review.

The HF-2 is a bit on the heavy side, if that means anything to you.
