Sony X1000 walkman or S:Flo2?

Which sounds better? Im torn between these two. Im a basshead so I want one with strong deep bass.

EDIT: Ignore the poll, the Cowan D2 is out and its now down to the Sony X1000 walkman and S:Flo2.

Good question!

I had a Cowon D2 and enjoyed it very much, the BBE enhancements are great. It bricked on me however ad I cannot get it out of locked mode, evem after a firmware update. Mechanically it looks fine.

I have not heard the S:flo2, but I'm looking for my next player as well. The Cowon has a bit of a compressed soundstage, but otherwise great. The Sansa Clip is a great sounding little player, but doesn't have enough power to use as a "line out" source.

Another one that might be worth investigating is the HiSound Studio (an upgraded AMP3?) that is soon to be released.

Good luck!

The Cowon D2 isn't the best option for a self-confessed "basshead" ... it's a little cold sounding. I also thought that my D2 was riddled with firmware issues and navigation was rubbish.

Some sony models, such as those in the X or A series, can match or beat the D2 for SQ in my opinion and they tend to have a warmer sound and more intuitive navigation.

I couldn't comment on the S:Flo2 as I haven't heard it.

Sonystyle.ca is an obvious choice. I envy the Canadians since Sony Canada is already selling the NWZ-S745B which fwir is close in SQ to the X series.

I have both and I can say, if it is only for SQ then the Sflo is your player.

I've only tried the D2, so I can't compare the SQ. I have heard that everyone that has tried both, and even has used the Cowon S9 as well, prefers the sq of the S:Flo2.

Me, I'll wait till the S:Flo3 hits w/better battery life (I can HOPE!!!).

if u have a high-end amp with great out put and a 300$ headphone that matches the D2 i'll say d2 but if u don't wan't to spend much and get all u want in one unit i say s:flo2

D2 vs. s:flo2

Well,

The D2 is a little weak next to the s:flo2 if memory serves me correctly. It has been a while since I had the D2 in hand, but it destroys the S9 to my Ear, having no issues with punchiness and loudness, not requiring amping normally while the S9 always did...

Yet the S9 is crushed by the s:flo2 and dismissed by it. The D2 which is superior to the S9 still isn't by memory, superior to the s:flo2.

The O2PMP had more bass than the D2 and it has less bass than the s:flo2.

That's all I really have to say about COWON's offerings in relation to the s:flo2...

Hope it helps.

Ok the D2 is out. Now how about the S:Flo2 vs the Sony X walkman? I got offered a brand new X walkman 32GB for $400CDN (about $350US). Is that a good deal? Its reg $450CDN.

i hate to rain on your parade but.......
sound quality and presense of bass notes are primarily the function of the headphones. no particular amp/dap combo will make up deficiencies in your headphones. sure, some have bass boost but eq will take you just so far.

the rule of thumb used to be was to put the money in the speakers, in the same era it was also straight wire with gain.

so....what headphone you have will play a more significant role than the player.
what cha got?

The bass is very nice. When I bought the Teclast T51(Slfo) the lows were a little shy, but later, I am not sure why (I asume a firmware update), the bass started to be really nice. Maybe it was DAP burn in... who knows... I compared it to my other DAPs, but they lost in terms of SQ.

the s:flo2 is going to give you better overall SQ than the Cowon will. It has a lot less playback time than the Cowon but if you can get past that and some of the smaller problems it has, I'd get the s:flo2.
