The balanced out is active in this mode but at a greatly reduced volume.

Well P.., I have been switching back and forth trying to help you out, from balanced to SE with HD580s and HD650s and I'm stumped. I'm using stock cables (balanced & SE) to try to keep it somewhat the same. The balanced is very noticeable. Imaging, soundstage is just crazy. Air, separation...everything is just more...

Did you email David?....Just copy and paste a link to this thread and shoot him an email...

I don't think there's anything wrong with the amp. It's quite possible to have an un-balanced input go to a balanced circuit. The unbalanced signal can be put through a circuit that can invert it to feed the other half of a balanced circuit. Switching between RCA and XLR, the sound should get louder. How much that will change the sound quality will depend on the music, source and amp in my experience.

Okay thanks for the help guys, I think I'll email him.
The redundant switch is annoying, and it should say not to have two inputs, and not say XLR out is disabled with RCA in.

On the balanced inputs of the amp, I have the LD DAC_I, on the unbalanced (RCAs), I have a CDP. I can listen in balanced or SE mode with switch selector #1. The only time I switch to #2 is to listen to the CDP (RCAs) in SE mode only.
Ah, thanks for the detailed answer

Good luck to OP finding an answer to his issue, sounds like an isolated issue.. ???

I tried it using RCA and both out1(4pin xlr) and out2(SE) is active.. unlike what heatfan said...
