I'm putting up my 5.5G diyMod for sale. I diyMod'd it myself and it has an internal 32GB CompactFlash with internal 47uf BlackGate NX Capacitors.
It has the latest software installed. It is fully functional and can sync with your iTunes library. It is not rockboxed because I prefer the simplicity of the original OS. I can install rockbox if you want. It has an library of about 4k songs, can be erased on request.
It is in great condition and it sounds great. The frontplate was just replaced so it is pristine. It was originally a white iPod but I replaced it with a black faceplate. It looks quite nice IMO. Since it has internal capacitors, ANY LOD can be used with it, it does not require a LOD with special capacitors. This allows you to use very low profile LODs.
The advantages of the Compact Flash is that it is swappable to a 64GB if you really want one. It is MUCH lighter, the iPod feels like a feather in my hands. It consumes far less energy so battery life is improved. And it is Flash Memory so you don't have to worry about the hard drive failing and losing all your data. The 32GB CompactFlash card cost about $80, the adapter $10. That's where a lot of the price comes from.
The click-wheel also has a small imperfection when I accidentally touched it with my soldering iron. It's not really noticeable and it doesn't affect performance at all. If you want, it can be replaced with a replacement click-wheel that costs about $5 on ebay.
Also, my diyMod has a certain quirk to it which you might want to know about. It's not really that big of a deal and it doesn't bother me, but it's there and I figured some people may want to know.
It works perfectly and sounds great. However, if you don't use it for a couple days, when you turn it on, it gives an error message saying that you need to connect the iPod to the computer to restore it. However, if you just reset the iPod (holding the center button and the menu button on the click-wheel at the same time), it reboots and works perfectly fine.
However, if you use the iPod quite frequently you will never encounter this error (and even if you do, you know how to quickly bypass it). For example, if I finished listening to my iPod and turned it off by holding down on the play button on the click-wheel, if I turn it on again the next day, it should boot up perfectly fine. The quirk only happens if you leave it off for an extended period of time (I assume the iPod enters a truly OFF state as opposed to an IDLE state).
Looking around past sales in the FS forum, I think it is fair to ask for $310 shipped CONUS. Also willing to trade for a 64GB iPod Touch. Also willing to take offers, PM me. Check out my Feedback.
