CTH boards: Where can I buy one? should I consider other alternatives? - Page 2

Thank you very much for you kind answers.

The Project Sunrise seems to be a great amplifier, and also the price.

Wow! How could I miss the EHHA?? tongue.gif Since space, construction complexity, and the extra-budget are not an issue, it seems like the best option so far. I am going to read some more reviews.

I was thinking for quite a while that an EHHA was going to be my next amp.. but I have a space issue on my desk at the moment, and I have a hard time justifying the $700 (minimum I think using Glass Jar's kits) for a headphone amp..

Oh MrSlim, there are many ways to skin a cat:)

I've an unorthodox/budget EHHA I on the bench I've been to lazy to finish casing up.  It will come in far under that $700 figure and as a 2-box build (remote PS) should take less desktop space than a typical SOHA II.   I know, pictures or it didn't happentongue.gif

Care to elucidate?

Good word there.  Again I use google's define: tongue.gif

Embarrassing its state hasn't changed much in months w/other things going on.  It sounded very good last full-on test.  This is most of the story:

Whats wrong with EHHA revA?  should be under $400 and unlike any other DIY tube project out there is can output 14Vrms unbalanced output,  that IMHO makes it the king of all DIY tube amps. Can power just about any headphone.   Plus it has very low distortion.  Yea we all wish Alex hadn't gone commercial closing off EHHA2,  but this EHHA1 is tops and I hope as time goes on more group effort is placed on it 'cause I suspect there is potential yet to be unlocked with the input section.

Otherwise if you don't need the power the SohaII is a tough one to beat,  very easy to build.  I would rate it a 2/10 on difficulty and an O2 a 5/10,  its well thought out and has little risk in damaging headphones/dac's like some diy designs can.  If you are lucky you can still find Aperex 12dj7 tubes for it that are seriously like buying equivelant $200 NOS tubes for $20.  Thats the biggest thing the SOHAII has over all the other hybrids,   most of us will never afford to hear what a true NOS aperex 6dj7 sounds like.  I can't tell you how many times I paid big bucks for NOS amperex 6dj7s when they were heavily used,  with the 12 volt version the sohoII uses you don't run into that.  Plus it has E12 protection right on board,  you can't beat it for phones requiring low power.

If the OP is interested I could send some SOHAII measurements.
