Mumford and Sons, and loudness complaint.

Wow, I just heard the MaS on Letterman last night and I liked what I heard. So I go off to Amazon to read the reviews there, and all 3 gave it 5 stars. But one of the complaints was about it not being as LOUD as other music they had at same position on pot. Does that not mean that this is a good thing?

all it takes is to turn up the volume it's actually a good thing, read more about 'loudness war' if you are interested.

btw, i like their new album as well.

Agree with dex85. It is a good thing. Some albums have sound pumped up so much it's actually a little distorted. A well recorded album will sound great especially if the volume is toned down. Having the music louder are what volume knobs are for.

Oh, brainwashing, how you ruin good music.

If there aren't any legitimate complaints, get it.

I have the "New Version" of this album, and that looks (and sounds) pretty good for modern-day popular music. Album gain -7.4 dB. I did make sure to listen for volume beforehand, so I wouldn't get another victim of the loudness race.

Please, please don't tell me you use Amazon reviews as a guide to good music.

imo there is no such thing as guide to "good" music. there is music you either like or you don't. and something is in between of course. you can find a source that has similar taste as you and consider it to be a guide, but concept of good and bad music is wrong in general.

I sure do, I read to see what folk have found with the music I have never heard of. I have found nice comments on artists like Neko Case. I read the number of reviews for a particular CD and then check out the amount of 1s. Then I read the first few comments, listen to the samples and then decide if something is worth getting. BTW, the comment on Amazon re: loudness war is pretty telling because the author probably did not realize he was talking about WAR.
