It seems that Audio-Technica has ceased to export the CK10 to US retailers. You can still get them through an independent importer (e.g. AccessoryJack or hovanfue.com) or perhaps one of the international shops (e.g. Jaben/unclewilsons). Lastly you can use a forwarding service to buy them directly from Japan, though you'd have to do some googling to figure out how.

 

As for the new version - that's anybody's guess. Audio-Technica has been tapering off exports of the CK10 for a while and the CK100 has never been sold in the US officially. Both of the earphones have been removed from Audio-Technica's ads stateside as well. Could be a long-term decision from lack of sales or maybe a new one really is in the works.

As of two days ago when I ordered them from J&R HJE900 are back down to a nice $89 delivered . Really hope Panas will cure my Phonaks disappointment, after long burn-in of course.

Weird the HJE900's have been $89 at J&R for the last week.  I have been waiting for them to drop down to $79 before I pull the trigger.

In the scheme of things, you really should not be overly concerned with cable length for several reasons:

 

1) the cable length is much easier to solve than getting an earphone with the sound you like and getting a good fit in your ear.

 

2) You can replace them with longer ones, since they're detacheable

 

3) You don't really have to place your MP3 player in the lowest possible pocket on your jacket.

 

4) You can extend them, which is how several Sony earphones ship, you have a very short cable from the earphones, that plugs either direct or into a secondary cable.

This is really practical when its warm and you're only wearing a shirt, with your MP3 player in your shirt pocket, it prevents a giant cable loop hanging down infront of you, waiting to get caught in doorhandles or something.

On other days, when you do wear your jacket and you want to put it in a lower pocket, you just plug it into the supplied extension, and voila, always perfect cable length, not a giant snakes nest in your pocket.
