I built this Starving Student for my office, and I needed it to be ugly to discourage thieves. Despite its less than fancy appearance, it sounds great as it's built using boutique parts: 4xElna Cerafine 470uF caps, 2xblack Obbligato caps, and a 50k volume pot I scrounged from my dead NAD 3020pe which shows no channel imbalance even at low volume.
The amp is built using the original SS schematics and has no input resistors, so it blasts at full volume and works very well with hard to drive phones like the old Yamaha orthos I used it with. Sound-wise, it has fuller bass than the other Starfving Students I built, probably due to the black Obbligato caps, and a mellow sound which I guess comes from the Cerafines.
The amp has no on/off switch, as I found that disconnecting the PSU plug from the rear requires the same time and energy.
The headphone jack is a 3.5mm (1/8), if you absolutely need a 6.3mm (1/4) and cannot source an adapter, I might be able to fit one for an extra 5 euros, assuming there's enough space inside.
