Denon AH-D1001 OR AKG K181 DJ ???

Hi guys

Im gonna buy either the Denon AH-D1001's or the AKG K181 DJ's but I want to make sure im making the right decision. From what I've read both have great sound (although I've never seen a comparison) and amazing bass (VERY important to me).. i guess i am kinda a bass head? but i also care ALOT about the mids and highs!! .. I read ALOT of reviews on both these cans but am still somewhat unsure about getting the AKGs

I'll be using them mostly in my dorm room with my laptop, (i have no roomates now but that could change anytime) on long walks to and from class, and to workout if possible? but i really dont wanna mess em up so idk.
comfort is very important too and many people have said the AKGs hurt after 30min but alot of people also said sony MDR V700's are uncomfortable but i found them surprisingly comfortable! i guess my head is avg size.. maybe a tiny bit smaller.
As for what music i listen to...
just about everything except classical... 80s 90s rock, punk, ska, electronica/house, techno, reggae, alternative, modern rock, some country, oldies, acoustic, hip hop, old school rap, R&B, spanish music.. lots of stuff

Which headphones would be better suited for me???
or im open to any other comments too

just keep in mind that d1001 do not isolate very well at all. Also if you are looking to get the same phone for cheaper there is the Creative Aurana Live, which is an OEM of the 1001.

The Creative Auravana are one sale at Costco in the US for $60 or slightly less I believe. Thats one heck of a good price on them, I wish Costco Canada had the same or similar special.

First of all i own both and think the K181dj is leaps better than d1k. The only thing good about the denons are their comfort. I havent tried any other headphone as comfortable as the denons. The akg's have better sound, better build quality, and has a detachable cable. There is a bass boost switch that comes in handy and also a mono-stereo switch. As for comfort though it clamps a bit at first but should loosen up after a few months of usage. With 42 ohms, It can be fairly driven by a comp or ipod. If you want club poppin bass look no further

I own both cans and I prefer the Denon over the AKG. The Denon does not isolate you from the environment but is extremely comfortable. If you have small ears the pads go around them. The Denon has very good quality low bass kick/rumble that give music a nice punch while keeping the mids nice and clear.

The AKG does quite a lot of things well. Even with the bass boost on the mids are clear and shine thru. But the bass can get tiring. It isolates very well. But this is due to the pads being supra-aural and crushing your ears against your skull. You can lesson the pressure by pulling the arms apart (carefully) but the bass impact is reduced. If you don’t like how it sounds, you can bend the headband back to its original shape by pushing the arms inwards towards each other with the left can passing the right can. When you let go of the arms, the black part of the headband returns to its original shape. There is a HD280 mod that simply replaces the pads of the 181 with the pads of the Senn HD280 as mentioned in another thread. It makes it more comfortable but changes the sound sig. I tried it and didn’t like what happened to the sound sig and returned to the original pads.

You can’t really go wrong with either headphone, but if you want long term listening and comfort with a very nice low bass kick and don’t mind hearing everything going on around you with your music, then go with the Denon.

If you NEED isolation and bass with clear mids and don’t mind having to take the cans off every 30 or so minutes, go with the AKG.
