Sony mdr-sa5000 vs Denon ah-d7000 - Page 2

I also did hate my SA5000's with my former gear and sold the Sony's to my friend because he loved them.

But try the SA5000's with a good source and amp and they deliver a sound which kills Denon MD5000 easily. Yeah maybe the bass is a bit lighter than Denon but the highs extend higher without any sign of harshness or glare. And this is still with that notoriously bad original cable.

SA5000's is the most revealing phone I have listened to (I haven't listened to HD800, T1 or PS1000). If you feed crap to them with crappy rig, they will give you crap. If you feed quality to them, they will bring you quality.

I have both the K701 and the SA5K. On my SP MPX3 the SA5K's are just superb. The K701 are superb on my Lil dot III+ For me it is a matter of matching to the proper amp and source (and tubes where needed)

Welcome. From a technical standpoint, I find hd800 outperform all 701, sa5k and d7k. d7k have isolation and more bass I give ya that. They're sealed after all. Those are pretty much given. Not that great @ isolation however for being sealed w.r.t. other counterparts available. hd800's frames are made of Leona plastic, 60% fibreglass and resin and others w/ earcups and headband of Alcantara. sa5k's magnesium framed w/ leather earcups, rubber stabilized clothes hammock, and stainless steel length adjusters. There're some plastics used too. And ya 800 came after sa5k...they look quite alike even the angled driver mounting systems and the lack of 1/4"-to-1/8" adapter cables. Some lads bash 800 for using painted/sprayed plastic but I don't mind. They sound superb and the spectacular soundstage keeps me comin' back for more.

I've seen some positive reviews regarding sa5000 but reading up on this thread makes me think twice..I don't think I'll enjoy the sound of sa5000. I'll probably wait for the bargain on d7000 since no luck with J&R..
Also, I'm still not sure I'm gonna like the sound of closed can.. after reading up on d7000.. many positive reviews as well as negative ones like too much bass or recessed mids..

^ you won't find ANY headphone here has even close to unanimous prasie on Head-fi. Everyone has different hearing ability and taste. Personally I don't like bass heavy humming phones -- they make me dizzy. SA5000 has beautiful bass -- tight, deep, controled and good impact. Mid and high are just superb. It is one of the best headphones I've ever had and I've owned and still own almost all the high end phones ranging from HE90, R10, L3000, to HD6x0, K701. Side by side comparing with K701, SA5000 wins hands down.

Never owned Denon cans since the reviews say they tend to be bass heavy and have sibilance.

From a technical stand point..The SA5000/DT48/K1000 are the best I heard... I loved the SA5000 to death, but sold it cause the DT48 is technically better.. But the bass for drums seems soooooooooooo right to me. If I had the K1000 I would sell SOME of my DT48's.. But I still need a closed headphone.. To the op, if you are looking for a headphone to replicate a home theater system, it's not question, the D7000 wins hands down over the SA5000, & many other headphones in that regard..

After reading up on many professional reviews over the web, I was serioulsy thought about sell my k701 and replace with sa5000.. but reading up here gave me a second thought..
But I am still very interested on sa5000.. much as d7000.

The SA5000 can mix and match with phones four times there price.
Team Sony attracts a lot of head bangers, but that is the price a great phone has to bear.
If you want to compare a Sony phone with the D7000 then get hold of the CD3000,but be warned they have a highly addictive sound.
