caps for a 5th gen ipod video

I have a 80gb 5th gen ipod video. I converted it to a 32gb compact flash when my hard drive failed. I finally want to do the diymod and want to put the caps inside the ipod.

What caps will fit and sound great?

I am also interested in turning my 5th gen into a diymod. I can't find any tuts. Could someone help me out?

Well, there is that huge thread on the diymod, generally, no good caps will fit inside. Some electrolytic caps will fit in a dock, otherwise, use external caps or have them in the amp.

No good caps fit inside? I've heard of blackgates fitting inside... are those a possibility? I'm looking for better sound quality but not the greatest. I still want the iPod to be portable. Any cap would be better than whats originally in the iPod right?

I don't get it - the caps you're talking about are for the line out, which means they are connected to a portable amp using a line out dock. Why is it a problem to have the caps in the dock or the amp?

The Black gate NX series caps fits inside, but they are really hard to find on the market. Partsconnexion used to sell them, but now the smaller ones are unavailable. You should probably check the size and search on ebay or on hifi diy pages

Uhm... Percy Audio and SonicCraft still have them in the "usual" sizes of 47uf/6.3V or 22uF/6.3V

Wow! BG NX Hi-Q 47uF/6.3V has almost doubled in price. It's now $4.75 from its old pricing at $2.5. Definitely, should go for another alternatives than sticking with BG.

If i put them on a dock and size didn't matter what would you recommend? What "series" should I be looking at? I really had hoped there was a good option I could fit inside the iPod...

You can put the caps in the amplifier itself. No need for them to dangle outside the ipod. Some amplifiers even come with caps across the input.
