From Headfonia: "The HD25 Series comes in two main variations: HD25-1 and HD25 SP. The SP is a lower-priced version with inferior sound quality and less efficient drivers"
That being said, I would think the HP 448 with it's 32 Ohm impedance designed for use with iPods and such will and should do much better then my Concorde version of the HP25 with 300 Ohm impedance with my iPod. Honestly I like my HP25 BA Headphones but they struggle when used with my iPod, they do much better with my Laptop and Desktop PC. Next week at this time the HD448s should be totally burned in and I can do a side by side comparison.

The HD 25-SP are the closest in quality to your BA version - same headphones, lower impedance.

These are a lot more expensive than the 448 (£130 for the SP, £85 for the 448 RRP in the UK) - so the 448 is a definite downgrade in sound quality; though the lower impedance would make them much easier to drive.

The 25-SP would have given you the same quality as the BA with the added advantage of lower impedance.

But if you are happy with the 448, that's all that matters.

John that's yet to be seen, I'm hoping they make me happy but until I get them and break them in I won't know for sure. I will most definitely come back and give my thoughts and opinions on the two when I do a thorough test. Thanks for your help and thoughts.. Paul

Well my HD448s arrived today and I am very happy so far and this is before they are anywhere near close to being burned in. I originally wanted to wait and burn them in before giving them a good listen but I just can't seem to put them down, I can tell they definitely need some serious burn in time, they are quite edgy straight out of the box and not as smooth as I would like but I'm sure they will lose that edge and smoothen out with some serious burn in time. But the difference in clarity compared to my HD25BAs is big, it's like a vale was lifted or I guess a better description would be if someone was standing in front of a speaker you were listening to and then they moved out of the way, they are much brighter, cleaner and crisp. I'm also thrilled to find my iPod can drive them tons better then my HD25BAs, impedance I'm sure is the key there, with the 448s I can't push the volume up past 3/4 with out it being too loud where most times with mt 25BAs volume needed to be practically full for good listening.
Bass was another nice surprise, with all that's been said about it's bass I thought for sure it would be a issue but honestly I like it, it's tight and I feel pretty darn accurate, maybe some think bass should always shake the windows but that's not what bass is all about, some musicians/producers do play and mix it that way but most do not, that's just my opinion as a life long musician.

Congrats on finding something you like, Paul! You'll grow to love the phones over time, if you like them from the start. With proper burn-in they'll become sweeter and less agressive-sounding, but will maintain the clear and highly detailed character. Or you'll just get used to not having the Sennheiser veil(TM) over your ears
I'm surprised you like the bass, I for one thought it was too unfocused and the phones were a bit resonant at first. It will subside a bit and tighten over time, or at least that's what I heard (from my own pair)

Thanks zmd,
Funny you should mention the bass tightening up, after 24 hours of burn in I popped on Dire Straits-Brothers in Arms and right off the bat I noticed how the bass tightened up.. Also the edgyness is practically gone and overall it's definitely much smoother... Sound stage seems to have opened up also,, Going to keep the burn in going night and day
