Hey guys
About 3 years ago I bought my first 'proper' headphones, a pair of Senn HD485's. I've had some good enjoyment from them and they've given me a taste of what real headphones can do, but I'd like try for something a bit better now. Out of the box the 485's were way too bassy, and although they souned better after burn in I've still had to use an equalizer to bring it down a little. On top of that I still feel the mids and highs are missing something.
After reading, reading and reading I dont feel much the wiser with so many contradictory opinions around. Currently though, the Senn HD595's are the most appealing. I've heard they have a balanced and detailed sound, with the Bass being good without being overpowering. All of which fits what Im looking for.
I've ruled out Grado's because I dont want supra-aural, but are there any other circumaural phones of similar price I should consider?
Also, I know I dont need an amp with low impedance phones, but should I consider improving my source? I listen to music through my computer and a creative x-mod external. I was considering a DAC/Amp combo like a NuForce uDac, iBasso D2 or an Aune. Opinion seems very split on this... some say they notice no difference on HD595's amped, others say they noticably improve the bass and detail.
Any opinions and suggestions much appreciated, thanks.
