Celine Dion or Madonna? - Page 2

Celine is clearly the better singer, though I am not a fan of her material.

Madonna has developed some chops over the years (check out how bad she is on early work), but is the superior entertainer. I wouldn't mind seeing Madonna live just for the spectacle, but would probably have t o be drugged and bound to attend one of Celine's concerts.

Fair enough, particularly since I agree.

"Holiday" and "Borderline" are two of my favorite singles of all time. Both from her first album. I first heard them when my primary listening was RunDMC and the Clash. She sang bang! on pitch and with great expression. Would a vocal coach think so? No. But then again, vocal coaches don't really care for music. They are all about technique. Not the same thing. Some people think Barbra Streisand is a great singer. I couldn't disagree more.

I'd see Dione just for the experience of watching spectacle in a declining culture. I think we agree. I just think Madonna, while not as technically accomplished a singer, is a far more important singer than Dione. That said, I've never been to a Madonna show, and I doubt I ever will attend a Madonna show. The spectacle is nonsense to me. Someday. SOMEDAY, she will just come out on stage, with a great band, and, you know...just sing. Or not.

+1 on Celine being much better singer but I would choose Madonna if i had to listen to one of them.

Celine may have a better voice, but having a better voice doesn't make one better. Madonna is just a more interesting artist in every way. Madonna is also more musical in that she co-writes her own songs and can play instruments, which I don't think Celine does.

(And yes, some people may take issue with Madonna's guitar playing but she does play guitar, and although it's been a while, she did start out playing drums for The Breakfast Club).
