5mW+5mW at 16 Ohms = 10mW at 32 Ohms ?

I have a D-33 discman which manual says that It has a headphone output of "5mW+5mW at 16 Ohms". Is It the same as 10mW at 32 Ohms ?

I've to decide which headphone to buy for this portable: an earbud (16 Ohms) or a full-size (32 Ohms).

That should be a 10 mW at 16 Ohm.

No, if your player has a max. 16 Ohm load at 5mw per channel then 32 Ohm load wil probably get you somewhere around 2.5mw per channel beings you have more resistance. If you buy a phone that has an impedance of 16 Ohms you will get the most out of your players output but 5mw is very little power especially if your phone requires more MW at 16 OHM to be driven. hope that makes sense.

Don't forget to factor in sensitivity. Phones with >110 dB/mW are loud even with low volume/power. By comparison headphones with <100 dB/mW are harder to drive (like the RE0).

Correct
