Just like the Australian in 2002 who went from last to gold when the rest of the field was taken out.

No joy in winning gold by default.

I kind of agree with this, albeit I"m no figure skating expert. However, this bunch seemed lacking overall. Shen and Zhao didn't even impress me really, unlike the other Chinese pair in the same group. They brought it.

I missed this. What did he do or say? He has seemed like a nice enough guy to me.

That Johnny Weir is a Weird cat. The American was rocking the tassel whle speaking Russian to the camera. I don't know what to make of him. Plushenko, on the other hand, rocked. I like his flair and casual mention of, "enemies." Think I"m going to get the "Plushenko" next trip to the hair stylist. He will be my pick for the long program. Takahashi gave an all timer that just felt a little above his pay grade, while Lysacek appeared one triple axle short of a heart attack. I'm surprised that dude has any teeth left.

Go Canada!
two observations about being Canadian during these Olympics:
1 - so this is what it feels like to be proud of ourselves and gloat about it...we are becoming a little more American everyday.
2 - this one really only applies to other Canadians watching the Olympics on CTV...did they take a page out of NBC's script? My wife has become an emotional mess watching all these vignettes about the struggles of the athletes had to get there...and don't even get me started on that Tim Hortons commercial where the dude's family arrives from Africa and he greets them with winter jackets and a Timmy's coffee....lmao my wife can't even look at the tv when that is on....oh and Joannie ROchette's mother actually dying before she competed....even I got misty when she skated the short program and I am a tough guy..lol (ok I cried like a baby when Spock died..."the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one...") waaah!

finally...I am glad they are over tomorrow because I have stayed up way too late the past few weeks watching the games!

Go Norway!
This small country with just 4.8 million inhabitants have so far taken home 8 Gold, 8 Silver and 6 Bronze medals. No 4 in the medal score so far.
I have been spending hours watching TV late nights the last two week and it has been exiting and well worth it. But glad that it is all over now...

That list is so corrupted... US is 3rd in the medal list not first! Gold is what matters so Canada has already won that game.

Today is the last dayThis olympics has been a mixed bag. A total disaster from the officials side which led to one death and it could have been more! To much focus has been in making the most challenging and dangerous events ever it seems. Putting a jump like that last in a downhill race when you are totally exhausted where none of the runners have been allowed to do a proper practise run!

We have in various cross country events officials that hold some runners back by 45 seconds and release others minutes ahead. Officials that let runners down while there is still people lying in the track. Even yesterday there was issues with the timing. The tv production was horrible in all the cross country events and biathlon. All of these things you never see in the world cup events and can´t remember seeing it in previous olympics either... Why does it happen here? This is just some of the bloopers.

But the actual competition have been as good as ever. It will end on top with the 50 km cross country and epic USA-Canada in the hockey finals.

Heh, NBC is so bad that its coverage is notorious in other countries. I have always been the first to bash the peacock so they're due a reach around from me. The coverage has improved dramatically over the last couple of installments. It's still schmaltz city but not quite the heights of Athens and Turin. Some of it could be chalked up to the American friendly time zone, which enabled much more live programming. Prime time has been more sports and less of the sappy human interest and Canadian tourism department stories.

I think it has been a great Olympics and have enjoyed most. However like the Norwegian, I think enough is enough. Let's close this deal and look forward to London.

But still fantastic considering you beat the Soviets who have no shortage of snow themselves.
