Pl21 or RE2s?

Hi guys, I'm just having some trouble choosing between the two, the re2s are about $15 more than the pl21 but do they sound better? And also do the RE2 come with foam tips like the pl21s? I listen mainly to hip hop(not a bass head at all though) and quite a bit of the beatles, pink folyd ect. .

When I bought my RE2s, (a year ago) they did not come with foam tips. They weren't overly bassy, but very detailed in the mids and highs, so I think you'd be happy with them. Keep in mind I've never heard the pl21s.

IMO, RE2 sounds a little better than PL21, especially when amped. Value wise however, I think PL21 is a little better (longer warranty, better build, more accessories, etc). RE2 has a better treble to mid performance while PL21 is more toward mid and bass).

Are the PL-21s over the ear? And are they fairly comfortable (Discreet etc)?

PL21 can be wore in both ways. A pair of silicone ear guide was included in the package. They are fairly comfortable, but I would recommend a pair of Sony Hybrid eartips (or similar clone) for better isolation.

The PL21 are designed to be worn over the ear: the tips are angled so when you use them over the ear they enter the ear canal at the proper angle. They can be inserted with the cable straight down, but then they enter the ears with an angle I consider very unconfortable.

Hey, just chiming in just to say that although you might have the same problem as dervishd, i personally have no problem whatsoever wearing pl21 with the cable down, exact same fit and comfort as when wearing over the ear (which i consequently dont do often). And i dont have an easy fit all the time with every IEM. So ear geometry plays a big role here, YMMV, but reading impressions it seems most dont have any problem wearing pl21 with the cable straight down, it seems dervishd belongs to an unlucky minority with these.

so to me they are very comfortable, and definitely discreet enough

Cool, going to order a pair, very excited! One last question though which I asked in another thread, I come from using the zune premium earphones(which I lost), will I be impressed or find the quality sufficient after using the PL-21s?
