Not really... Try a Pro 750/900 or if people is correct the HD 800 you should clearly see the difference in attack and decay compared to slower headphones. Like K701 which I suspect many don´t see as slow. HD 650 is about the same speed as the K701.

I have found out that most headphones apart from my Ultrasones are about as fast/slow as my speakers so I guess they are a bit special regarding transient response! Running the Pro 900 not properly amped they do get noticable slower though so yes amp matters a lot.

If you have speakers try to run them along with your headphones to benchmark them works quite well.

WTF, seriously. This is so far from correct that I don't know where to begin. To add to that, your comment on the HD-650s just goes to show that people mistakenly equate treble response with speed, or lack thereof as meaning the cans are slow, not to mention suggesting things about heaphphones you have no experience with.

Some measurements of various headphones can be found on Headroom's site, including graphs of their response at different frequencies, though understanding those graphs is not so straightforward.

I have to say, I can't help noticing that a number of people who insist on giving advice as if they know what they are talking about seem to own the LD MKIII. I don't think a serious discussion on the speed of response of various headphones is very relevant unless the gear driving them is of sufficient caliber. Buying headphones because someone on a forum said "They are fast because I think so" is not really that great an idea.

The headphones I've used that appeared to me to be very fast, that is, both gave a very real and natural presentation of instruments and also maintained that and a high level of detail and instrument separation, even with very complex music were recent Stax models, Symphones Magnums (Grados with highly modified drivers etc.) and HD-800s. That's not to say there aren't other headphones that are fast, just that I haven't spent a lot of time with my current rig and other headphones enough to say.

Hd 650 is not an example of a headphone with good transient response though.. Its no better then the K701!

I found the DT880 to be noticeably slow (certainly a step down from the K701). The fastest headphones I've heard are a number of 'stats, the HD800, the SA5000, and my old Ety ER4P.

"Slowest" phones I have heard is the hd650; I think it has a LOT to do with the rig too.

The slowest headphones Ive ever heard were a pair of airline earbuds. No bass or treble extension whatsoever. Harsh and plasticky mids. Whatever song you threw at them, it would just mush everything together and nothing could be resolved. It literally sounded like noise.

EDIT: WHen I think of headphone speed, I think of transients.

normal: d2000/5000/7000, senn hd600/650, other grados
slow: AT esw9/10/11, most ultrasones, most beyerdynamic headphones (non-600ohm versions)
slowest: orthos
