I bought this DAC/Amp right as I was getting into the hobby and used it for about a year or so. I bought it around December of 2008, and have used it as my primary source for a long time. I recently decided that it was probably time to upgrade, since I didn't think I was getting the most out of my headphones.
That said, the DAC is a nice little contraption. It was a definite upgrade from the sound of the on-board DAC my macbook pro came with. Sound was cleaner and sharper. Obviously at this price point I'm not going to make claims that it is an end all be all piece of wonder, but I heard a definite upgrade.
It has it's limitations and at times sounds a bit thin, but I haven't noticed any distortion in it.
Here's the link to HotAudio's page on the HotUSB1. The version on the sight looks to be upgraded, as when I bought it the HotUSB1 didn't come with an LED. I'm assuming that the specs remain the same, since the sight says it's made the same as the original.
Comes with the USB cable that hotaudio originally sent with it.
The picture is kind of simple, because the product is. It has USB in and Mini out and that's it. No power switch, no power LED. It turns on automatically with USB power, just be sure to select it as your sound output (I can walk you through it for a Mac if you've don't know how, but for a PC I wouldn't know).
All said, I'm looking for $40, shipping and paypal fees included. I'll only take paypal. Con US only, might consider trades, though I'd prefer money.
