Anything inadvisable regarding using debit cards for online purchases?

I'm getting the JH16/JH13 in the near future and as I can't really run a $1k charge on my credit card, I'm wondering if it would be better to put in my debit card info on the credit card lines instead. I don't have any worries about running overdraft since I'm pretty particular about monitoring its balance, and I don't use the account otherwise except for very, very rare cash withdrawals.

Um, no. They can't get money from your debit card.
Put some money aside, when that reaches 1K, dunk. No problem.

Check your debit card terms and conditions very carefully. They usually do not have the same level of protection credit cards do, e.g. getting a transaction reversed if the seller fails to deliver, of if the goods turn out to be defective.

To OP: the above statement is the only major issue with debit card usage online. A debit card will transfer money out of your account right when the transaction is done. A credit card just adds the transaction to the total amount that you are later required to pay back. As a result, it is much easier to get a transaction reversed on a credit card then it is on a debit card. There was an instance about 5-6 months back where I got contacted by my bank because there appeared to be odd transactions on my checking account and when we were sorting through them, it turns out that all the odd transactions were made using my debit card number which meant that the bank had to go through a process of canceling those transactions and then filing a reimbursement claim for my account to get the money back before issuing a new debit card number, whereas had it been my credit card, they would have just reversed the transactions and issued a new card number.

It's perfectly safe to use your debit card as a credit card online. Just be warned of such issues.

They may not be able to get money out of your account with a debit card if they don't have the PIN, but you can certainly use an individuals debit card as a credit card and make purchases with it.

You shouldn't have a problem using your debit card for online purchases as a credit. Since you're buying from JHA, I don't think you would have to worry about them failing to deliver your goods as I'm sure they wouldn't just take your money and run. But otherwise, definitely keep in mind what majid and appophylite mentioned.

I certainly recommend you use a credit card over a debit card for online purchases.
Simply for the fact that they most often (always?) provide more protection if the deal does not go on as expected.

Not that I do not think JH Audio deliver as expected.

I've had money reversed on my Chase debit card but they won't do it for everything
