Ipod Nano Quite Impressed

Thread Starter
I was trying out and playing with my Dads new charcoal black Nano yesterday and to say the least I was quite impressed with it plus its SQ as well, though I have never been an Ipod fan or user, I will admit that this little beauty from Apple is neat and nice, though I had to get used to its menu system.

I did find though when using Media Monkey to transfer the MP3 music over to the Nano, it was quite slow and my Sansa Fuze was actually quicker. Also it did have a Vol limit on it and, in which I've adjusted.

The screen is nice also and I love that flip horizontal/vertical function it has as well.

Questions:

1. What DAC does the Ipod Nano use, is it a Wolfson ?
2. What file support does it use eg MP3, FLAC, ATRAC etc

Nice to hear that you like it.

1. Not Wolfson, as they lost contract with Apple back in 2008. Wolfson misses out on Apple players | Reuters
Really not sure who replaced them.
2. AAC, MP3, Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV

Nice to here that you like it, great stuff. I use iTunes to transfer and keep on top of my music collection, it's straight forward and simple to use and actually does quite a reasonable job.

Your Dad may well prefer iTunes simplicity over Media Monkey. Not to mention the easy access to things like free Podcasts etc, loads of quality content available via iTunes. I find music's better purchased else where however, such as Amazon for example (320 kbps files and cheaper).

I don't use iTunes to rip music as I personally don't think it does a good a job as Exact Audio Copy combined with Lame (MP3's ripped to 320 kbps sound great); in fact I find iTunes ripped files sound kind of muddy in comparison. I simply rip using EAC and import into iTunes to sync with the Nano, works perfectly every time.

I've tried Media Monkey but to be honest I preferred the simplicity and layout of iTunes.

Yea man I just sold my iPod Nano and I loved the thing; very good SQ out of the "line out" and sounded better than my 1G Touch. Getting a Teclast T51

I like my Nano too, hey not bad SQ i think. I was recently trying to sync mine using iTunes and I couldn't figure out how to "fill to capacity" from a single playlist. It wanted to "fill from music library"(or some crap like that)lol. Mine is 8GB and some playlists are 3 times that...so I had to use trusty MM. I like both but itunes looks much prettier.
