i see their cable in the uk is say 25 pounds a meter plus 20 pounds for termination(speaker,ic) maybe 50 pounds termination for a pc. in the us the same cables are like $900 for 6 feet terminated! why is that?

here are just a few examples.

uk:
Speaker Cable :: Cables :: Van Den Hul - Welcome To Custom Cable

us:
van den Hul Speaker Cables from Eugene Hi-Fi

terminations run about 25 pounds or $40 or so in the us.

it does not weigh much. i don't know if there are shipping rules like with some other companies.

well, look at the revelation that is what i am intrested in. in the us a 2 meter set(3 meters) would be $1,495. if you get it in the uk it would be about $425usd(at todays conversion) for the 4 meters of cable and $130usd for those terminations. so about $550 vs. $1,495! that is a big difference!

edit: maybe the whole thing is if you do not get them terminated. it could be they charge $1,000 for labor to terminate them? the ones in the uk you terminate yourself. i am more than capable of doing so and saving the money. maybe they are $1,000 less as well in the us unterminated. i will have to inquire.

the orchid xlr ic comes to about $100usd less. that is still a lot closer than the speaker cable by the meter though.

vdh are the guys with halogen free cables? i just can't stand halogen in my cables...makes me angry even thinking about it. all these halogen packed cables on fire releasing all their fumes whilst i'm trying to focus on the soundstage & imaging rarghghghhh.

i wouldn't put much stock in that eugene site tbh the prices look pretty high.

well, i have a good reason to want it by the meter anyways. i want all bananas. so i will call a place in the uk and see if they will ship. i don't know why they put spades on the amp side. they will not even fit on some amps and just tend to work loose.

i don't care about the halogen free. although that is a legit concern for some. this company just makes good honest cables. yes, i said honest. they do not even use techflex. they are just cables and they do not hide anything.

i don't know what i was thinking. the 2 meter set is actually 8 meters. 2 meters each negative and positive x 2 speakers. if you do the conversion plus the termination before shipping you save about $450 in the uk. still, that is a lot.

The UK prices probably also include 17.5% VAT as well.
Plenty of stories on horrible price variations the other way around as well (ex. Grado), so I am not surprised at all.

I think I went to their shop a couple years ago as I wasn't living too far from there, but cannot remember if it was called Custom Cable.

I googled Custom Cable's contact number and their address show as 35 High St, New Malden, Surrey (a south west London suburb). I used the satellite view and I recognised the place. is impossible to see the shop from the high st because is hidden behinds other shops, and unless you know what you're looking for or know where it is, you won't know is there; I remember had to ask someone because couldn't find it.

my first impression of the shop wasn't good. it gave the impression of like is wasn't doing very well. the speakers and other gear seemed like they had been there for sometime. it's a small shop and it's crammed with low/mid budget speakers; they're everywhere on the walls, on the floor you can hardly move around; there seemed to be no order, they're scattered everywhere. I'd say 90% of the speakers were British, and since I don't usually buy British I didn't ask or audition anything, just looked around for about 10min.

of course my was just a first impression and doesn't mean much what the shop looks like, and don't know anything about them, but I went to another smaller hi-fi shop and as I went in I was presented with magnificent Sonus Faber towers, Totem's, huge simadio amps, Exposure, etc.- catch my drift?

once I get my fake cable I gonna give them a call and ask if is possible to audition some vdh cables - of course I'm not gonna tell them that my is fake, LOL

lenni, i think it is obvious it is fake to people that know the difference. if it sounds the same good deal then.

i can try a different uk store. i saw even cheaper so far. plus it does indeed include 17.5 vat which they take off! shipping is about $30 to usa for 8 meters(2x 2 meter pairs).

i want the revelation and i don't think custom cable even has it. that stuff is not cheap. i might try a fake one as well! there is another thread here "ebay cables" that points out that they might not even be fake, just read the thread.

i just would not try the fake power cords. that is a very risky idea.

i hope those guys from hk really send it at least. they have lots of positive feedback.

other than that i think i can honestly build my own 'revelation" that is just as good for a fraction of the price. so i am not sure if i will order just yet. plus, that is not fake it is mine!

edit: i meant i wanted the supernova not the revelation. i think i can make this myself albeit in copper. copper may sound better anyhow.

They went halogen-free in 1990.

i am wondering if this will actually be better than my 6awg cerro or even 2x 6 awg cerro. i will be very dissapointed if it is not. so far the cerro has beat almost everything. i don't know if i should order this or not. i like vdh straightforward aproach. it is just a wire. no techflex or anything to hide what it is. i am assuming it is a more technically advanced wire than the cerro but that does not mean it sounds better. silver is not always the best sound. it is the same thing though. they cut it off a roll and you terminate it how you like. i like that kind of cable. no bs. cerro is halogen free as well since in is in wall rated.

actually if you go for the fancy termination option plus shipping it is not so much of a deal. if you live in the uk and get basic terminations it is much less than in the us.
