Is travagan's red still a good deal in terms of power and transparency? I'm also looking at Headfive, Maverick D1, Cute Beyond and maybe others I'm forgetting.

Talk of the travagan red is mostly a few years old already so I wanna know if there's a flaw that's been discovered, a better deal or something.

I just started a thread something to this effect, and asked Skylab some opinions directly since he did the original review on the Travagan's.

I think it comes down to "what kind of headphones are you using?" as much as the individual amping options.

Here's a couple good options you didn't list;
Purity Audio KICAS Caliente
Audio-GD Compass
nuForce HDP

I switch headphones pretty often. Pretty hard to match an amp to what I use. I want one as neutral as possible that can power the most headphones possible.

(The ones you suggested all surpass my budget BTW )

Wonder if Skylab still stands by his review.

I'm sure if he didn't, he'd change it.

The Audio Gd compass is no longer in their site. I think now they have the FUN
