Leckerton UHA-6S vs. iBasso D10 - Your Impressions?

The title said it all. I'm "interviewing" for an amp/DAC combo piece with S/PDIF (optical) to use with my iRiver H140. I am interested in the Leckerton UHA-6S and the iBasso D10.

I'm looking for top drawer sound (or right up there), and it would be nice if it had the synergy with the ER-4S's that the MiniBox E+ does, but that's NOT a must. I do have a pair of Shure SE530's I will use with it.

Suggestions, anyone???

Thanks, all! ~~~~ Sara

Ahhh, I'll bet no one knows the UHA-6S. There is info on these boards about the UHA-3, but nothing about the 6S. My guess would be that no one owns one?

I could be the first?!?

I think you are correct in that not many have listened to the UHA-6S ( Leckerton Audio - Products - UHA-6S ). I owned the UHA-3 a couple of years ago and it was a nice sounding unit although as an amp I prefer the MiniBox-E+. No idea how the new UHA-6S sounds like, priced very closed to the iBasso.

Miguel, I may well be able to tell you how the UHA-6S sounds! Oh, I haven't decided to buy one, not yet. There is another amp/DAC now in the Linearossa W3 that warrants investigation. The tough part is that all three of these pieces are priced within $20 or so of each other. That kinda kills the "that one's out, it costs too much" argument! Once again, feature set - they are all SO similar. I don't know if the W3 will allow for opamp rolling, but the UHA-6S does. I know the D10 does.

Fun stuff!!

A couple of things to consider is the reputation of the specific gear. With the D10 you will be able to read lots of reviews/impressions, plus would be able to buy a TopKit if you so desire. Since so many have been purchased here you could find an used one at a reasonable price.

On the other hand Leckerton is a "local" company so if something goes bad it will be an easy thing to ship it back for resolution. Not so easy w/ manufacturers from other parts of the world.

Important points, Miguel. The "tipping point" would be hearing them, but I can't - so, I rely on you folks for your impressions. I don't think I would go wrong with either, SQ wise. Most well designed gear is remarkable in how different it doesn't sound from other gear like it (unless it's intended to). The differences can be audible, sure, but they aren't night and day - IMHO, again!

Regardless of which one you end up buying I just hope you enjoy it. Good luck.

I bought the UHA-6S. Looks like I'm a loner!! And a loaner ;~)

After it comes, I'll give a short report on it, if that's okay with everyone. I plan to ultimately use it with my iRiver H140 (which hasn't arrived yet, either). I'll let my Mac and my iPod have a go at it, too!

You should bring that Leckerton to the Bay Area meet, share the wealth. I think you're the first buyer. I had the UHA3 and really liked it, especially the size. I upgraded to the D10 and love it, I use the optical w/ my Macbook.

I'd like to do that if I can. When is the meet?

Whatever happened to the Bay area meet? Any impressions on the UHA-6S, Sara? I'm in a bit of the same boat as you-thinking about buying an H120 to replace my H320 and looking for a DAC/amp combo to match it with. Headroom Micro DAC is expensive, huge and battery life sucks and the Core Sound HeadLine gets poor run-time as well (and it's fugly...) so both those are out of the picture. iBasso D10 and Leckerton UHA-6S seem like my only two options. With both priced right around one another and such similar specs it really makes it difficult to set the two apart. That said, Evanston, IL is right around the corner from me so Leckerton Audio definitely has an edge. It looks like the DAC section in the D10 might be a little better, though.

Any and all comments concerning this topic would be greatly appreciated.

My first amp was a UHA3 it was a great little amp. I since upgraded to a D10 and haven't looked back since. I am curious however as to how the UHA6  compares to current amps. I hope this one gains a little more traction here at headFI. Leckerton audio always had great service while I had my uh3;
