I've just purcharsed some Sennheiser PC-350's and am looking to get a relatively inexpensive headphone amp to drive them with.
As of now they are running through my desktops x-fi xtrememusic and while it doesn't sound bad, I have to almost max the volume out on everything whenever I went to listen to anything at decently loud levels. Also, when the levels get that loud, it feels like the soundcard is straining.
Basically, in order to get the levels of loudness I like, the audio starts to get mildy distorted. Based on my experience with my bass amp and my car system, I can tell that the weak link is the source, not the driver.
I'm on a pretty tight budget ($100-$200), and am considering either a nuforce icon uDac or a Little Dot I+. I'm considering the Little Dot I because I just love the tube sound. My bass amp is a tube amp and I also have a tube/hybrid amp for my car.
I know that the uDAC will bypass the sound card entirely, but I'm not sure if that's even necessary. All I really need is more clean power.
Any advice?!
