just received my results ...and i ve flunked all my exams this semester.....this is the final year of college..and cant believe how stupid i was to ignore studies.

will have to re-appear for exams.

toughest part is telling the parents.

and will probably have to put a pause on my social life for 3 months.

what can i do..and how do i tell them that i messed up.

Bring a bottle of wine, then sit down and tell them the truth straight forward.
Better luck next semester!

Did you fail because of other obligations or did you just slack off? It's my last (and most difficult) semester as well, and I really don't want to do a damn thing. But I force myself, because I don't really have an excuse other being insane.

What are you studying, and how did you mess up so badly?

Just tell them flat out that you screwed up but are willing to put in all the time needed to fix everything. Do it then get straight A's.

I guess I was the opposite. I really screwed up my first year, but I worked hard my last 3 years.

i did put in efforts at last minute..but since its the final year of degree (Business management)...the exams are much much harder.

i live with parents....so i am thinking they ll put lot of restrictions on me now and treat me like a kid.

other than that...business management was my strength...i cant believe how badly i messed up.

Ah I see. Well, just take this as a life/learning experience. **** happens but you just have to deal with it sometimes.

If they are paying for your college or you're living at home rent free (and I'm assuming they are and you are), then you tell them straight up and then thank them repeatedly for paying for your free ride. Also tell them you were an idiot for slacking off and taking their generosity for granted. I would also suggest you kiss their butts and thank your lucky stars that you have parents that care about your future (probably more than you do based on your grades) enough to pay for your college and/or room and board. You should be ashamed.

If they aren't paying for your college, then why do they need to know?

Yeah, what he said!

Of course, all of this doesn't matter as much as long as he can still graduate AND has a job lined up... but otherwise I think he'll be put under house arrest and be a few months behind everyone else. I guess it could be worse; at least you still have your mom to cook meals every night!

i ll be able to attend classes for next semester and give exams..but i ll also have to attend extra classes for the previous subjects.

so double pressure.

sorry to hear that... as krmathis said, truth straight up - also let them know you realized you messed up etc etc.

and a mod should ban you from head-fi until the next exam is over.

Live and learn, so it doesn't happen again. My parents are also taking care of me, in exchange for me doing well and not impregnating/killing anyone. I couldn't fathom letting them down, since they've had infinitely harder lives than me, yet still sacrifice their own pleasures so that I can go to college. And I just couldn't allow myself to fall down, because it'd essentially be suicide. I don't have friends or go out, so graduating college and getting a decent job is my only chance to know some inkling of happiness.

You party a lot. That can be hard on the grades, but everyone needs to live every now and again.

Want to know what's even harder on grades? Surfing the net during study time. Get yourself banned from head-fi and I bet you'll do better on your next set of exams.

As far as what to do about telling your parents, what ecclesand said.

Dude you joined April 2008 and have 3300 posts. Shows that u spend way too much time here. There are ppl who can pull that off and still get straight A's, but in your case, shows you that you cant afford to do that.

Giving partying and going out as an excuse for not studying is just sad. Thats immature and you need to man up and get cracking and get things done. You need to live a little holds good, but notice how it says little, you cant just keep partying all the time, it doesnt work, and flunked all your exams? God thats just terrible.

I'm sorry but I feel sorry for you parents, not for you.

If you truly understand you made a mistake and can correct this, present it that way. "I screwed up, I know I screwed up, I know how to correct this and this is what I am going to do" However, it depends if this is the first time you did this or the hundredth time. From the way you sound, it is likely the first, so as someone else said, take it as a life lesson and go on from there.
