Looking for a portable CD player

I'm looking for recommendations on a portable CD player with great lineout. Right now I have my ipod touch hooked up to a darkvoice 336 via lineout RCA and it isn't cutting it. I want to keep it portable because I travel a lot so please don't recommend something that isn't. Help please?

How about a SONY D25?

Wow. Does that one cost a fortune?

I have an original Technics SLXPS900 with optical and rear line-out as well as remote control! What a fabulous '1-bit DAC' CD player with no anti-skip

How about this:

Shame about the lack of inputs/outputs....

AOL Audio has New Old Stock ones for sale.

ALO Audio

SONY D25s New Old Stock CD Player
$275.00

ALO has acquired a limited number of vintage new old stock (NOS) NEW IN BOX Sony D25s PCDPs. The Sony D25, one of the finest sounding portable CD players made.

The D-25 portable CD player is regarded by many as the best portable CD player ever made for sound quality. Its construction is superb and is made almost entirely of metal. Not like the cheap players of today. This player was made circa 1989 and has the audiophile coveted 4X over sampling that offers incredibly detailed and smooth sound. The headphone out will drive even the most demanding headphones with ease and the line out when paired with a nice headphone amp offers the most liquid midrange and taught accurate base.

Crikes. Collector's market or something?

Buy a $30 one and enjoy better than iPod quality!

Is the $30 CD player going to have a great line out?

if you want it to really be portable, i would stick to a modern PCDP...

Use the search function, i think the Sony DJ01 is pretty good for example, don't know where you can buy it though...

Do any portable cd players come with eq's? I see some of the sony's have a bass boost, but that sometimes muddies up the rest of the sound.
Man, that D-25 looks nice, but that's quite a steep price.

It's not a steep price. You can buy a modern MP3 player for the same price. Regards to the portability I just need to be able to lug it around. I will only be listening to it in a stationary spot hooked up to a Darkvoice 336. I'm pretty set on the D25 unless there is something out there that's better.

Wow. I have one too. Crikes - I'm starting to sound like a Head-Fi gear head. I really liked it, but found that I needed the external battery dongle pack to stop it from skipping. It has an optical line out and the sound quality is superb. But no better than the classic Technics XLPS 9000 - that has an optical line out and an external line out, as well as a headphone socket. I think they were sold as Panasonic as well.

Nonsupremous - many do have sound shaping built in. Sony 'equalisers' tend to have 'bass boost', 'megabass boost' as well as a 'vocal' option. Panasonic/Technics 'equalisiers' have a 'bass boost' and 'live' sound options. There must be many others ....

I think I might get the DEJ011 just to check it out. My Sony Walkman is the best sounding portable I have had. It's only 37 dollars at Best Buy, so it might be worth it. Anyone have any experience with this one?

Megalomaniac - if you get that cd player...please let us know what you think. It certainly looks like a tank! If it sounds as good as it looks, it might be worth pulling the trigger on.

I have it ordered right now with the ALO RCA cable. I'll be giving impressions in it's headphone and line out when I get it.

Actually, i don't have one, but i saw it was recommended somewhere on the forum.

But, thx for the info on it, since i was thinking of picking one up on ebay, but if you have to lug the battery pack w/ it, then i think i'll skip that one...
