Meier Audio MUSIC HI-FI ORPHEUS - Page 2

Seems quite contrary to Jan's prior style, both physically, as well as in name. Using the name of Sennheiser's electrostatic flagship seems strange.

Apparently, it's made by "Music Hi-Fi" Not by Jan. (see the link in the middle of my post)
( I could be wrong though.... I don't really understand any Japanese (if that is japanese...))

Are you sure it's not Russian?

Those are Chinese characters.

The Orpheus (a DAC + tube amplifier) is made by a Taiwanese company which is specialized in selling headphones and related equipment.

The article (the original one has six pages) says Orpheus is a powerful and neutral amp. It can truly reflect the characteristics of different headphones including HD800, D7000, K702 and 600ohm DT990.

However the article sounds like a "advertisement" + "review". Therefore it would be nice to have some independent reviews by others.

So the Orpheus is not made by Meier?

Maybe they took their inspiration from Daft Punk's Pyramid? xD:

Nope. It's made by Music Hi-Fi.

And at one point in history by Sennheiser, but that, kids, is another story.

No.

However not sure whether it is designed by Meier or not.

It looks tacky and cheap.

Made in Taiwan? You know the Taiwanese always make good stuff...

No. Not Meier's design. 100% the product of the company Music Hi-fi of Taiwan. Jan is simply considering importing and selling it.

Chances are that a very large chunk of the computer you typed your post on was made in Taiwan, and audio is increasingly dominated by Taiwanese and Chinese interests (buying up high-end boutique audio brands, not simply winning the manufacturing contracts). Those who think its only the entry-level gear from folk like Marantz are sadly mistaken. I expect this trend to continue - its one thing to sell 15K speakers made in Denmark to the lucky few, another to do battle with Cambridge Audio and others while paying European wages.

I agree that most of us dont go looking for gear with 'Made in Taiwan' stamped on the back, but I don't underestimate the ability of those same factories to make better product when the contractor is prepared to pay more for each unit they pump out. Every glorious frame generated by my Asus video card is testament to that.

In the case of this particular piece of kit, I had to check the calendar to see if April had come early - it hasnt, so I'll just assume that Jan is having some fun with a few in the way-too-analytical audio community.

No wonder. It looks totally different (if not weird) from Jan's other designs.

This is weird, whacky stuff.

It's only been a month and half, so I'll bump. I've seen the Music Hi-Fi Orpheus on sale and in the flesh at Mingo in Hong Kong for HK$ 9980.00 (member price, but you can apply at counter past HK$2000) which is roughly US$1300. Unfortunately, it is not within my price range, but in any case I may translate what information I can find later today or in the week. Plus: offical site
