Chances are that a very large chunk of the computer you typed your post on was made in Taiwan, and audio is increasingly dominated by Taiwanese and Chinese interests (buying up high-end boutique audio brands, not simply winning the manufacturing contracts). Those who think its only the entry-level gear from folk like Marantz are sadly mistaken. I expect this trend to continue - its one thing to sell 15K speakers made in Denmark to the lucky few, another to do battle with Cambridge Audio and others while paying European wages.
I agree that most of us dont go looking for gear with 'Made in Taiwan' stamped on the back, but I don't underestimate the ability of those same factories to make better product when the contractor is prepared to pay more for each unit they pump out. Every glorious frame generated by my Asus video card is testament to that.

In the case of this particular piece of kit, I had to check the calendar to see if April had come early - it hasnt, so I'll just assume that Jan is having some fun with a few in the way-too-analytical audio community.
