Tangent THREAD work with multiple outputs?

I'm fairly new to DIY so please forgive the dumb question.

I want to run two 5v devices, a amb gamma2 and a sony pcdp from one psu. Can I do this with one transformer and a regulator like a thread with the power output split into two connectors?

Yes, but just make sure you don't do this with a devices that are connected together with one having a virtual ground.

My plan is to use either a 9V DC wallwart or 9 VAC @ 556mA torodial transformer (digikey TE62021-ND) --> Tangent THREAD set to output 5V DC --> split into two connectors 1 to fit the gamma2 and a the other Sony D-EJ01 CD player.

How do I know if something has a virtual ground?

im also doing something like this but im trying to get 5v+ & ground. Maybe the info there can help. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f7/mod.../index142.html
scroll down to see wiring diagram attachment.

Thanks keyid but I noticed your using two different secondaries off your transformer. Is that a requirement?

use a dual secondary trafo and use 2 treads.

or 2 sigma25's (amb)

or 1 of each

don't share 1 psu. they are cheap. use 1 EACH.

Thank you linuxwork I'll stop pinching the pennies and let Abe take a breath.

when I look at a lot of dacs, they have LOTS of reg chips in them. lots and lots. its a way to do it, I guess.

so don't combine, go discrete. the 'insulation' is what you want.

What is the current draw of the D-EJ01 ?

I'm not sure how to measure current draw without taking it apart. The reccomended Sony wallwart rated at 4.5v 500mA although I'm using one that 5v and it seems to work fine.

The Sony specs will work.
Figure 800mA as a conservative estimate for both devices.
Track down a suitable transformer and plug the numbers into Tangent's power supply estimator to see if you can come up with a workable solution with a single tread.
(the only reason I can see why would you would want multiple tread boards is if you can't locate a suitable heatsink)
