Help choose between new phones or a new amp

My current setup is BeyerDynamic DT331 phones with a CambridgeAudio D300 cd player.
Let's say that I've only $250 available now, should I buy an amp or new phones first? I was thinking of getting a Little Dot MkIII now and the DT880 later, I listen to metal only.

Dude needs some Grados! Stretch a bit (preowned) and the Grado 225 and the iBasso D2+ Boa make a nice combo for around your budget. Notice how budget is a loose interpretation? And you get both! Not one or the other.

Grado's are the headphones for you if you like metal.
