When was the last time you listened to a Nano?

I personally don't think it's quite as bad as most people think it is, I own both a Cowon D2 and just about every generation Nano released. The 5th gen Nano is a nice dap. The radio, video, pedometer and other functions etc are great additions over the 4th gen.

Teamed up with some decent IEM's it's a good package, the user interface is in my opinion easier to use that the D2's, the Nano is all together a nice slick all-round package. The build quality is in one word, superb.

You know I've just picked up a copy of What Hi-Fi's Ultimate Guide to Technology for 2010. The best DAP in thier opinion sub £280 - The 16gb iPod Nano. The best DAP in their opinion over £280 - the 64gb iPod Touch. Other UK gadget Magazines also highly rate the Nano giving it the top marks (Stuff and T3 for example).

They can't all be wrong or biased, Apple products seems to get a really time here on Head-Fi, with everyone bashing there products, even the one's not released yet (iPad).

Call me a Fan-Boy if you wish (I probably am), but personally I think your father would find the Nano a lot easier to use and live with than anything else out there.

Chuck the white Apple Buds away, get him a pair of Senn CX-300-II's as a minimum and I'm sure he'll be over the moon.

Ok first off I would like to say thanks to those who helped me out here on what to choose and 2ndly I decided to take the plunge and get him a brand new 8Gb charcoal black Ipod Nano, picked it up here in Perth, Australia for $189.

My view

First off it a nicer looking player than what I imagined, actually very nice to be honest and I liked the colour as well. Also the unit seems to be quite well made as well with also a nice size.

SQ

I have never heard the SQ of the Nano myself and thought I know it will come with the Ipod buds, I really hope my Father uses his Senns PX100s on this to appreciate the SQ, plus I hope it will drive the PX100s as well. Also I dont know if this model has that EU sound volume cap.

So to sum things up, my Mum has a Pink Sansa Fuze and my Dad the Ipod Nano.

Great choice, the Nano sounds great with the PX100's - I'm sure he'll be more than happy, for best results use EAC & Lame to encode to MP3 at 320 kbs, trust me the Nano will sound all the better for it.

If you find it's an EU capped version, try playing with the volume adjustment slider settings within iTunes (select album, right click, options and you'll see what I'm talking about) - Failing that Fiio E5's are cheap solution.

I hope he enjoys it.
