Looking at buying an audio-gd compass for my ad700s for an increase in sound quality and potential volume. Anyway wondering what would be the best way to connect it to my desktop since I only have the integrated soundcard with a 3.5mm jack so I'm guessing I must use usb unless there is another way?

Most probably using USB.
Since that bypass the computers built in DAC and use the Compass' built in DAC instead.

The Compass is discontinued. The replacement for it is the Audio-gd FUN. I would read a bit about it, although I am sure it is just as good as the compass. I would also recommend connecting it through your computers USB port. I have mine connected to my computer using an optical output from a Creative Audigy 2 ZS PCMIA card. You may want to look into getting a sound card with an optical output if you want to fully utilize the DAC in the FUN. It is also possible to get a sound card that has high quality analog sound.

Why is soundcard needed for DAC? Isn't Onboard good enough?
