Apple has a page on identifying iPod models here. If you have a 5.5-gen iPod (released in late 2006), it will look like this. Anything released later than that (such as the 6th-gen iPod Classic) is not Rockbox-compatible.
Be aware, if you do have a Rockbox-compatible iPod, that Rockbox functions as a completely alternative (and, in my mind, superior) firmware, so it bears no connection or resemblance to the original Apple firmware on the device (although it still allows you to boot into the original firmware if you wish). I would suggest giving the iPod Video Rockbox manual a read if you're interested in (and capable of) going that route. |
