IC Los Angeles Area meet (Targeting K1000 owners)

As the title stated, it's a preliminary interest check thread.

The primary intention of this thread is to get all you K1000 owners out to try out compare each other's amps and each other's K1000 as they do sound different depending on when it was produced. Donald of Donald North Audio will be also be present with his newly designed K1000 amp.

K1000 owners and enthusiasts are all invited (which means everybody)!

I think we need to figure out the location first. We could meet at someone's home or garage. Who has enough space? Or we could get a conference room somewhere.

Great idea, will look forward to seeing the impressions.

Mine are 4757 and have plenty of bass, i expect the new drivers were introduced around the 5000+ mark

Don't have a K1000 but wants to get one. I hope the meet happens on the week of 02/22, I will have a business trip that week to LA.

Hows this event going Moonboy? Id be really interested in hearing how the different serial numbers (Bass heavy / light) k1000s perform with the same components upstream.
Different recables would also be very interesting. And of course the usual battle of the amps.

Well, first of all, we would probably want more than 3 people to get this meet going.

I'm thinking of picking up the K1000 again and it would be nice to have a full blown meet as well. A smaller K1000 meet sounds cool as well. I really missed not being able to listen to Donalds new K1000 amp as I was busy running around! Would love to do that this time.

Guys you should have the meet even if only 4-6 members participate. I mean you will end up w/ 4-6 examples of K1000 and various amps to try , it should be fun and would love to read your impressions. Cheer.

I think we should plan a full blown meet for either Saturday April 3, April 10, or April 17. The past two have been in Orange County, perhaps we can return to the San Fernando Valley for the next one.

Just noticed this thread and am interested. A couple of months out would be good for potential schedule conflict clearing and give me some time to get the Moth back in action. I'd like to bring it since it does marvelous things with the K-1000.

Also, I'll bring the Conrad-Johnson PV-2 and MV-52 along so people can hear what the K-1000 is like on a push-pull EL34 power amp.

I wouldn't mind doing this as part of a larger meet, either. If we got another venue like the LAX Hilton with multiple rooms, it might be a good idea to set up a K-1000 only room. It'd be good to have a strict no talking rule in there, too.

It's very expensive to do that, Eric. When we had it at the Marriott, we lucked out because no one else was using the other space so they gave us the 4 rooms (3 together, 1 separate). We only paid the highly discounted price for 1 of them which was $200+, but if we had had to pay for all of them at regular rates it would have been well over $1200.

And the no talking rule didn't work, remember? We had the 4th room and the hallway for talking and only 2 people used it.
