Oscar winner for Best Picture this year? - Page 5

For me, its a toss up between Hurt Locker and Inglorious Basterds.

I just don't see Avatar winning best picture.

Frankly, Avatar (which I loved for its effect) will probably come back with a fair amount of swag, but I very much doubt it will take Best Picture either. I did not enjoy District 9 and don't feel that should win at all.
The unfortunate thing is that D9 could have been a really great movie. For some reason though, it chose to veer away from all the interesting colonialization/otherness themes and inexplicably morph into some kind of weird shoot-em-up alien/monster movie. The last half really sucked compared to the promise of the first. I seriously doubt that has any chance whatsoever, as it shouldn't.

Slumdog Millionare won last year, No Country the before that. I didn't think it was surprising at all. No Country had a lot of momentum that year.

I had to go back to check the other noms for 94. Yeah, I have to agree, Pulp Fiction should of won. Could it be foreshadwoing, that it lost to a movie with cutting edge special effects and a somewhat maudlin story - Forrest Gump. I think the crop against Basterds is stronger.

Honestly, while THL was my best film. I can't easily or passionately segment among what I consider top tier. For me there was no "hands down," "best," or whatever base terminology one can use.
