greetings all. i mostly hang out over at audiokarma since im more of a speaker guy, very big speakers. flecom introduced me to this site and i have been poking around here. i posted the info below over at audiokarma and i figured some tube guys over here may find it useful.

i dug out a pile of vt-231 6sn7's to test out and was baffled when all of them showed leakage, even one that was still NOS in its package from 1943. this had me a bit stumped. they cant all be bad. the majority tested fine for everything except for interelectrode leakage.

i had a hunch it may be humidity. im in miami where its 80-100% humid almost all the time and these tubes where stored in a shed. i washed them as they were kinda filthy and then tossed them in the oven for a few hours at 220 degrees. done deal! the number of leaky tubes dropped drastically to something that looks more like what you get when going through piles of used tubes.

so, got GT based tubes that test leaky? try baking them!
