I was a big fan of eq but now that I have my IE8 I prefer to not use any eq... sounds best to me. With my RE2 + FiiO e5 amp combo though, I came up with an eq to certainly rival the IE8 with no eq... it all depends on the phone in my experience. Think of it as eq'ing the phone, not the player, not even the music. Just the phone.

That and soundstage would seem to be the main things you'd want to look for if sound signature can be altered with an EQ?
All I can say is you'd be surprised if you'd hear these with a good EQ. They have other downsides like J-cord and driver crackling, but SQ-wise they are stunners for the price. There's a small thread about them and their Playaz siblings here.
