A simple, but priceless, joy - your dog welcoming you home

I think this is something that every dog owner (or human companion) knows of....the unconditional joy that your dog displays whenever you come back to home. Sometimes they are so happy when you return that you'd think they're high on something. For me at least, it makes a rough day much easier to stomach whenever I see my pooch "smiling" when I open the front door.

I know exactly how you feel. I go out into the field to work every two weeks for two weeks, and when I get back home, no matter what time of the day it is, he's sitting right there at the garage door waiting for me to walk in with his tail wagging like its going to fall off. He barely even gives me enough time to step into the house before he knocks me over demanding a good pet-down.

Yup. One of the brightest things in my life is my dog. He has got to be the most perfect dog I have ever had. No matter how bad a day I have, seeing him just makes me smile.

Or when they chew up your very expensive DiMarzio extension hanging on the floor. Or when they jump on your table and gnaw at your brand-new headphones.

EDIT: Oh wait a minute. That's a cat. Right?

My dog was the same way till about 15 years when he barely got up anymore. Then it was hard to watch him and just sad. But the little guy was so good that (imagine this): we were trekking through the bush of a huge lot and a rabbit ran about a metre from us and he started chasing it. But, I don't want to have to go chase him in a place I don't know where there might be bigger animals waiting for a little half lasa apso.

I said, "Buddy (yep, his name was buddy), stop!" and guess what? He stopped. He stopped chasing a rabbit, one of the most natural instinctive things a dog can do! Amazing dog. So nice, so friendly and very protective (though small).

Human's best friend for a reason.

- They keep secrets and don't gossip.
- They see you in a bad mood and won't say a thing.
- They bring civility to a conversation.
- They'll love you when your mother won't.
- They enjoy your odors as much as you.
- They won't pretend, they're dogs.
- They are the definition of loyal (unless bacon's involved).
- They have a good time anytime.
- They are God's love when you need a hug.
- They are a friend.

Does it count if your cat greets you?

It's usually coupled with a demand for food, but still.

And your Dog is NEVER EVER 'not happy' to see you come home. We have two dogs - they love each other and they both love us. True 'pack' animals. "Were All In It Together"..!!

My dog spends the evenings laid on my lap eating little bits of cheese dipped in my red wine -- its a rough life

Ahh, all pets are instant happiness generators. They make whatever rubbish you had to put up with at work go away. I got particular joy from when I had a dog because you'd have to take it for a walk which always relaxed my brain.
