NFL: Crucial hit on Brett Favre during NFC Championship Game should've been flagged - ESPN

Just a little more proof the Saints did not win in a legit manner.
The NFL is simply trying to make Brett feel better for ruining another teams chance at a Superbowl.

It was a mercy ruling for the Vikings fans to keep them from having to see yet another fumble in the red zone.

Don't forget the touchdown gimme the Saints got. The guys knee was clearly down with the ball at least a yard away from the end zone. Ref signaled TD, and no one ever questioned it. In fact, it's rarely been mentioned.

I still can't believe the refs didn't call that roughing the passer penalty, though. It doesn't get much obvious than that.

Seems like more egregiously wrong calls this season than any I can remember. Maybe time for some younger refs?

It's stuff like this that makes me feel like football is rigged and very shady. There were numerous plays out there that's very questionable, and it was quite obvious what the Saints were trying to do.

It has seemed to me for awhile that the refereeing during the play-offs is sub-par. Maybe it's because they aren't working with their regular crews? Can't blame the Saints though. It's their job to play and the refs job to pick out the penalties and down locations.

This definitely wasn't the first time egregious penalties weren't called or a team got a gimme touchdown either. Anyone remember Steelers v Seahawks Superbowl? Again I don't blame the Steelers but the Seahawks definitely got the short end of the referee stick in that game.

Bad calls are a part of it. If it comes down to one call then you didn't do enough to win. It was a typical case of the usual Brett meltdown. He's just like Romo for the Cowboys. He Looks great on paper but a loser when it counts.

This is the usual case of blame the QB. Favre did everything he could, he kept playing after that bad blow to the legs, and it wasn't down to just one call..there were plenty of times the refs should have called one thing and did another. Did you forget about Peterson's turnover in the redzone? That is what REALLY cost them the game. 5 turnovers and the defense was able to keep it at close game, surely they did enough. They were just paired with a bad ref team.

The Vikings Put the ball on the ground time after time, and them the Vikings coaching staff totally mismanaged the last two minutes, which is what put them in the position they were in at the end of the game. I mean, I have never seen a team called for 12 men in a huddle, after a time out! I mean, seriously? You send a 12th player onto the field after a time out? That penalty is what cost them the game, since they were now out of FG range. So,instead of Favre running for a few yards, which he could have easily done, he made the worst throw a QB can make: across his body, into the middle of the defense. The rest is history - Favre kills yet another teams SB chances.

The refs certainly did blow some obvious calls that could have changed the outcome of the game, but the Vikings should have never been in a situation that let the zebras determine the outcome. They outplayed the Saints in every phase of the game, and still lost.

I wouldn't say they outplayed the saints in every phase of the game. Vikings had way too many fumbles. They were lucky to be in that position. Before Tom Brady got injured, that was a legal hit. I thought it was a scrappy game and could have gone either way. With all the fumbles the vikes had, they were lucky to be a in position to win and Brett is known to commit an incredibly dumb pass from time to time especially in the playoffs. He had a great season though and very controlled with his erratic throws not trying to force the issue.

Pepsi, your avatar is frightening! Talk about nightmares...

Let's not forget the Vikes would have never been this far if it were not for Brett. The QB has always been the Viking's weekest link, and they managed to make a good call for once by picking him up.

Football is dumb anyways, for way too many reasons to really count. I have always pushed for reinstatement of gladiator battles as this country's #1 sport. There are no refs, so no one can blame them. If the guy is alive, he wins. And it's more exciting. Win, win, win!

Also, Aaron Rodgers was totally facemasked at the end of the game against the Cardinals. It was pretty blatant.

BattleKid, I agree on the gladiatorial combat thing. The stakes for winning aren't high enough in mainstream sports.

Quite well put logwed! I'm sure Favre would have put forth more effort with a damaged leg... if it meant his life. Gladiatorial combat is very popular and most people don't realize it. It really just takes one of us to admit it out loud before we all begin to go, "Ya know what, I 100% feel the same way!"

Despite the turnovers, the Vikings were still in a position to win the game. Their coaching staff finished them off with poor play calling, and that incredibly stupid penalty that put them out of FG range. I call that outplaying your opponent.
