FS: Chameleon NOS DAC *price drop x2* [Valab NOS DAC's successor]

Up for sale is a recently released Chameleon NOS DAC.

I bought this for use in a high-endish (by my standards, anyway) setup consisting of a T1, Decware CSP2, and Chameleon. The Chameleon found itself in the company of a $1000 headphone and a $800 tube amp based mostly on my experiences with the Valab. The Valab, stock and in its cheapest iteration, was incredibly smooth, musical, and made everything sound just plain old real. The $200 Valab actually turned out to be the key lynchpin in an HD650, Bijou setup that I enjoyed immensely. I sold it in anticipation of the Chameleon I have now; unfortunately, without the Valab in the HD650, Bijou setup I just didn't have the motivation to listen to that setup, since with the interim DAC it was just plain old boring. The Chameleon NOS DAC, however, is supposed to be an immense step above and beyond everything the Valab ever accomplished, according to the Chameleon impressions thread (though comparison comments tend to get buried by enthusiastic modding discussion =]).

Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to listen to the Chameleon. I had the CSP2 and the Chameleon, and am still waiting for the T1. Sometime in between that, I decided I'd rather go for a portable IEM route. Therefore, I sold the CSP2 and am now selling this (and probably the T1 when they arrive). Fortunately for the buyer, though, this means the Chameleon hasn't seen much use at all and is in pretty new condition.

SOLD

This is a steal folks, this is an awesome dac with huge modding potential, but superb stock sound as well. I'd put it up against anything in the sub 1k price range.

What kind of inputs and outputs does it have? Is the voltage user switchable?

It has RCA outputs, and USB/Coaxial/Optical for inputs. The voltage I believe is fixed (this unit is 110V for USA).

And thanks for the vote of confidence Mike =]

The voltage can be changed easily via a jumper inside the DC30w unit. 4 screws and a jumper change. A little more info on this dac :

16x TDA1543's Parallel
Passive I/V Output Stage with alot of room for boutique output caps of your choice
Defeatable Asynchronous Re-clocking of USB/Optical/COAX
24/96k Input via usb/coax/optical
Wolfson WM8805 Digital Receiver, Tenor USB Receiver.
Same USB Interface as the Teralink X2.
Digital Input and Reclocker are on a "Daughter card" interface for easy future upgrades and repairs.

The Power Supply has an R-Core transformer, Panasonic FM caps, and is Shunt regulated. 2 Rails which can be adjusted between ~ 5-9 volts via variable resisters.

Are you sure that it has 96/24 support through USB? From all the DACs I know of only Benchmark has this feature.

I think it does. I took it out of storage to test and it played the test tone @ 24bit 96Khz connected via USB under that Windows device properties window. I also set Foobar to 24bit, 96Khz output and the songs played great (again via USB). Huh, interesting... didn't know it could do that =]

Oh, and bump.

It's basically got a Teralink x2 built into it.

And interesting tidbit about the teralink, I'll have to look into that.

I'm quite interested. Are you willing to ship this to Australia?
