Strange Behaviour: iTunes and Optical DAC

I received my new Spitfire DAC last week and have been using it via coax/cd player and am quite enjoying it. Now, the other day I realized that my computer had an onboard optical out, so I thought I'd try to hook up the Spitfire that way and see how it worked.

Now, here's the weird thing: when I try to play a track in iTunes the green playback LED on the DAC flashes on for a second or so, and then goes out again, no sound ever being actually played. I don't really understand what's going on here. Any ideas?

P.S.

I did make use of the search function, but did not find the answer I was looking for.

If this is optical from a Mac like mine I have no idea why it's not working. Flawless over here. Maybe it's trying to use an unsupported sampling rate?

The onboard optical is on a Dell Dimension 9200C. I tried connecting the DAC to the optical out on my HDTV (fed by PS3 via HDMI) and listened to the same mp3s I have on my computer, and everything worked perfectly. I just can't figure out why this isn't working directly from my computer.

Ok, I figured out the problem. I had a mini-to-mini cable plugged in to one of the audio jacks on the computer, and it seems that you just can't have more than one audio jack in use at a time. I unplugged the mini-to-mini and now the optical is working perfectly.
