Upgrading source from iPod Touch

Ok so I know there are tons of players out there with better SQ... should i head in the Cowon Direction with the S9 and D2+ (BTW which is better of the two? Just for audio purposes) or should I look somewhere else?

Isn't there a good DAP floating around out there made only for music or something? I don't really follow the new stuff.

Thanks a lot guys.

Hmm. Is the Cowon D2's sound that much better amping the headphone jack than the iPod with a LoD?

All I can tell you is my experience, I have never had a portable amp other than an E5 once. But I have had an ipod touch and now I have an S9. The S9 sounds much better directly out of the headphone jack. I was surprised at the difference when I first turned on my S9.

You're probably thinking of the Sansa Fuze, which is quite similar to the iPod nano.

Who me or... but yea I decided to stick with the iPod brand and get a Rockboxed iPod video or something. I have a LoD and have no idea on how to get rid of it.

FS forum area can get rid of it

There aren't any real audiophile portables on the market. They are mostly recycled parts of the same type which do somethings better, somethings worse than their comrades. if you really want to have the best sound, you will have to think of getting an older iRiver with optical out and then a DAC/AMP or DAc and amp. HiSound should come out with the successor of the AMP3 which I have high hopes for and there is the HifiMan 801, but other than those options, I don't agree that moving to Cowon, Microsoft, Sansa will represent anything but a side-grade from a lowly iPod.

Well if that is true I am amazed that someone can say the ipod and basically anything Cowon makes is a sound "side-grade"........ Just my opinion I guess. I have also never used a LOD or whatever it is, maybe that makes more of a difference than i think.

Haha yea.... about the Cowon side grade... maybe he meant in terms of sound increase. I'm pretty sure he knows that Cowon players generally sound better from the HP out than iPods but maybe he meant not THAT much better.. ya know?
But I'm just guessing and I don't mean to put words in your mouth, just throwing my opinion out there.

But yea I have a LoD and IMO it... it cleans up the sound on the older iPods a lot but with my 5G nano and iBasso T4 I can't really tell the difference with my Trips... but I think/know it's because of the amp; its powerful and has a bass boost (which helps) but is very neutral and transparent so it's not really going to color the sound at all.

its been too long since i had an ipod so cant even imagine what it sounds like now compared to my cowon.
