Updated Source List w/digital out?

Thread Starter
Would those in the know care to post such a list of the CURRENT (meaning you can actually buy one, unlike the iRiver H120/H140) players offering a digital out?

Many in-advance thanks!

see old list
nothing has changed, the record companies and internet music juggernauts do not allow players with digital out, the only ones you will find are OLD or are not DAPs, but instead are digital recorders with crap battery life and no features. iriver is still the best option IMO. though there are a few others that can be modded to attain one, IPOD has one in the form of an i2s stream if you know the secret code cowon X5/L has i2s as well which is actually fairly easy to tap if you know how to read a circuit and use soldering iron. not a regular digital out like spdif though, you would also need to hack the DAC to accept i2s (even though that is the format used on the PCB after the receiver in most cases)

some PCDP still have them too

what?? Hifiman doesnt have coax out??

oh my.... *illfeel*

i think i will stick with my iriver ihp100 and then forget hifiman

thanks for the information.

does hifiman has line-out??

I think Head-Direct are taking the approach that the Hifiman is to be an all-inclusive package, thus won't waste time with digital out because that would preclude the onboard amp. They want you to believe that it doesn't get any better at any price with any accessory and to do that, they have taken away possibility to use with external digital equipment.

No problem

yeah, unfortunately its the truth, it does have analogue line out so you can use with another amp, but I think this deliberate move by head direct may have been a little short sighted, they will rule out people who would use it as a transport at home or just later on portable, as it is basically as soon as the dac is outdated by something portable, the whole thing becomes dispensable instead of being able to utilize the rest of its functionality. it also doesnt have analogue IN does it Shingzeo? have you used one? because AFAIK the dac section is not a module like the amp, so that is the dac you are stuck with. its a good dac for sure, but it wont be too long before tech catches up and overtakes it..

ZuneHD has an official dock that has an optical and HDMI output on it.

Telecast T51/s:flo2 players are getting high regard as being great sounding players with a dedicated line out.

Zune to save the day.

and how exactly is the zune dock a portable device?? it needs its own power source and is errmm a bit large. if you are going to count that, you should count ipod as well since there is more than one dock which allows digital out. no, a portable digital output is what the OP is after from my understanding. otherwise you may as well use any number of devices with digital out that are superior transports to the zune OR ipod
