Head-Fi should have spell check

English is not my 1st language to start with. Sometimes the words I pick up could be offensive to other people, and I don't realize untill things get out of my hands. I'd wish head-fi would have spell check function!! It is easier for people around world to post. Thanks

Firefox has a spellcheck function. Works just like Microsoft Word: it underlines wrong words with red and with a right-click you can select similar right words.

That sounds like more an issue with common sense than spelling. When you pick up new words, look them up to see if they can be construed negatively. Unless you're purposely using the "not my first language" thing as an excuse to say offensive things without having to deal with the repercussions. Hey, I've seen it happen.

Sounds like natrual practice to you, but not in my case. Try to speak and write something other than English yourself. I am sure the common sense will go away pretty quick

Other than spelling, I learned there was big difference between calling someone "hey" than "hi"

Those just IMHO.

Why do you assume I haven't? I'm actually taking French in college and tried to learn Japanese awhile back. I often do look up words and phrases. I'm not saying it's always possible, but if it's happening to you CONSTANTLY, then you may want to consider it.

All I asked for is a spell check function to make other people's life easier. Please, there is no offence...... I took Japanese class and had same Japanese girlfriend for 7 years. I know how it is.

But anyway spell check function will be very helpful indeed

there's a difference between misspellings and word choice.

I know, that is why I am asking. When you try to post something in a time frame, that can't find how to spell it, then next solution is to pick a word that closest to it. That's how things start to go bad. I don't want to be a bad person......

There were a lot of miss communications between my mon, my dad, her parents, her, and me. Just one word (lettler) off when they talked sometimes.

I'd also recommend using a browser-based spellchecker. Firefox is excellent and runs on pretty much any platform.

As for grammar and usage, you just have to pick it up. I've taken five years of Spanish in school and have spoken it a bit - you have to in Los Angeles. I also visit Mexico whenever I go to Arizona, so I know what it's like to fumble around in a language you weren't born with.

The best way to pick up usage is to expose yourself to media. For English, I'd strongly recommend listening to NPR as much as possible. They take pains to get pronunciation correct and you'll hear proper usage - the listeners demand it. You'll pick it up.

+1 with the add ons in Firefox. That's how I get Australian spelling - you know we English people like to speak proper English [Stabbie stabbie, dig dig]

It is 3rd time in head-fi history I have to 101% agree with you.

I don't think your posts are ever that bad. I can always figure out what you mean, but I can see how other people might read things wrongly.

Lucky me, I never use/used spell check for anything except long papers, but it was only to make sure I didn't miss anything as I was typing. I have OCD when it comes to certain things and spelling is one of them. I was a perfect speller even as a kid.

Which spell checker would you like, the English one or the simplified American spelling version.
