Looking for external DAC (PC/Xbox360->Monitors) for 200-400$!

Hello

Equipment: I have a PC with a Creative soundcard (it sucks! because it curtsy when i play something or when I skip), maybe the PC is a big disturbing source? Doesn't matter. I would plug the PC via USB and the Xbox360/PS3 via Toslink.

The DAC should be some kind of monitor controller (for my EMES Black), with analog volume control, switchable input etc.

Budget: 200-400$

Like this: Special Edition DAC

I know the story about Stan (liar, swindler etc.), but I don't care about that. I just need a good device for my monitors.

Here's a quick tip if you're thinking about getting the Caiman (Special Edition): Don't. It's about $14 worth of parts installed for an extra $100.

However, the TC7520 can be a very nice choice. Are your monitors powered (do they plug into RCA jacks?) Or do they need an amp?

But there is a difference between these two models, right? The Wolfson Chip should be better?

The monitors are of course active monitors

OK, then the Beresford wil work.

Yes the Wolfson chip is better, but it would be cheaper to buy the Wolfson chip and a TC7520 then ship everything to Tirna Electronics and have them install it. The Beresford upgrade packages are a scam of the first degree (in North America they charge $100 to swap socketed opamps.)

Wolfson WM8716 upgrade on its own(in Europe but outside the UK) - £35 inc VAT
£140 + £35 = £175

£25 cheaper, correct?
