Full sized cans, closed. What for my use?

I have previously owned Sennheiser HD25 1-11. Used them as my closed set of cans but sold them and bought my first set of IEM's (Etymotic)

Now I am looking for a new set of full sized cans (closed). Important when choosing new cans are;
- they should be "over the ear", full sized
- Could be used both with and without an amp
- should be comfy
- Portability is not important

I have been looking at Denon 2000 and ATH m-50, but are there other cans to consider?

Denon D2000 can get picky about their amps.

I guess unamped, they would sound alright, but you wouldn't be wielding their desired Sound.

Sennheiser HD448 also worth looking at.

Try the GMP 8.35

HD 448, interesting. Decent price, but are they acutally at the same level as D2000? How are they unamped?

yes, that's another relevant set of cans to take into consideration. Hmm, this will not be easy...

I how noe listed
Denon D2000
ATH-M50
GMP 8.35
Sennheiser HD448

Source will be my Beresford DAC or directly out of my Ipod Classic. Any thoughts how to make a decision?

Well if your music require fast bass then denon would not be an option ! Great sounding fun cans but bass is little sloppy.

Shure SRH440 +1

If you can amp it, then SRH840 IMO

Sluppy bass is no good for my taste, but who knows. I have noted two votes for the Shure 440. I'll have to spend more time reading some more reviews i guess.

I own the M50s and I think they are doing their job very well...
I really like them. They are really comfy and sounds great with my Cowon S9 (by the way I use a custom EQ)
I'm kinda new to the headphone world but I think its worth trying the M50...

But as I've read in the forum an amped SRH840 is better then an amped M50 ..
And might be more comfy..
But again its just what I've read here.

I love my M50s and I've nothing to complain about them.
Only one thing: they can get a bit hot after a while. But its true to almost all closed headphones with pleather pads..(but I'm sure you've already known that :P )

Shure SRH840. I love them.

HD448 aren't even in the same league as the D2000's they're quite dull and hollow sounding imo, smallish soundstage and lean bass with hardly any extension.

However, sound leakage is far better then the Denon's, you get about 15-20db leakage with the d2000's playing at 75db which is more then noticeable in a busy office.

Just so everyone knows you can put the BayerDynamic DT250 velour pads on them. I havent done it yet but it will help with the heat. There is a thread around here somewhere on the topic and they look pretty good on there.

Oh, and my vote is for the M50, but the SRH 440 is the only other HP mentioned that I have ever heard. But the M50 does sound good without an amp.

Oh yes! I've read about that too before I've ordered the 'phones!
And yeah they look nice with that pads
But as I remember its more comfy with the velour pads, but someone said that the sound leaks more, and the bass is not that good with them...
I dont know for sure...
I'll check that thread again!
Thanx for reminding
