Why.
I am fairly sure that I am not the only one.
And kindly do not resort to throwing troll around.

Yep, there are plenty of ignorant people online.

Or maybe American literature isn't a key thing in Australian education? I dunno, you'd get it if you came here.

I've read a fair few classic American novels. I hadn't actually gotten around to this one though. I'll pick it up next week.

Wow..Back on track....I'm not much of a reader, but when I had to read this for high school, I finished it in a day

Thank you Mr. Salinger.

So now that's out of the way, I do think it's pretty ignorant to specifically reply to a thread about JD Salinger and Catcher in the Rye just to say you've "never heard of him let alone the book" (or not having read it, which wasn't even mentioned). I'm not especially fond of American literature in general, but Catcher in the Rye is a fairly seminal book no matter how you look at it.

I was reading a news story the other day about how today's youth don't find it relevant to their lives, and it's hard to imagine that things have changed THAT much since I was in High School. I don't know any High School kids anymore, but I did wonder how much of it was just sensationalism for the sake of the story.

Back to the topic of the thread, I'm pretty excited at the prospect of those 15 unpublished manuscripts, assuming they exist and ever see the light of day.

I read it as it was one of my texts for English during Year 12, and it was a great book to write essays on; So much good content to analyze and write about.

RIP. You will be missed. I loved that book. I must've read it over half a dozen times.
