Shrinking down the CTH a bit more - possible?

I'm planning on a JH16 in the future (is CTH good with IEMs, by the way?), so I was researching easily transportable amps I could carry with me in my backpack, which would mirror my favorite WA6/Chameleon DAC rig. I nailed the DAC down pretty easy as the Devilsound NOS DAC, but the amp was giving me a heap of trouble. Then I find this, and according to its dimensions, its somewhat bigger than I'd hoped but still a good size.

I'm just wondering though, how small can this go, exactly? I'm thinking if you align the tube parallel to the length of the enclosure [brace tube socket with a metal bar screwed to the side of the case] you could get the height down drastically (Maverick tube DAC had its tube aligned this way IIRC). If possible it'd be great since with the tube exposed as it is in a standard build, I'd have to take it out every time I throw it in the backpack, which would either worry me about wearing out the socket or accidentally crushing the tube in transit.

Of course that'd probably require a custom case, but is it possible? And how easy is it go get a custom case? I'm not really knowledgeable on this stuff since I plan to find someone and commission them to build it for me anyway.

Also, are there any appropriately specced power adapters shaped like so? I'm aware this one's underspecced, but you get the idea.
Bogen Communications | SPS2406 24V DC @600mA Power | SPS2406
The standard cube shaped wall wart's going to be less optimal then a small rectangular one like that in terms of me carrying it around in a backpack.

And apologies if I'm supposed to post this in the main CTH thread, seems its more for substantial stuff like troubleshooting rather than speculation such as this.

Just happened to peek here during lunch...

Adapter: CTH needs an A/C one not a DC as you linked to. The A/C adapter really just being a transformer in a case. AFAIR I measured the draw w/std tubes @ about 500ma, so any transfo < 700ma might get warmer than we like.

Size/horz tube: It could possibly be done, I guess, but a CTH build in its BoM case is mighty packed as is. And needs good ventilation because of that. I guess one could rig up a horizontal tube mount+socket in a somewhat taller case.

Although my little CTH used to make the trip from work <-> home twice a week in my briefcase, I've a 2nd CTH (+ B22) @ home now. Still keep one A/C adapt @ work & one @ home.

But think if you really want portable, really go portable like amb's mini3 & others.

N.B. I'd think you could detect a smidgen of hiss w/ultra-efficient IEMs depending on how a build is executed.

your other option is to use something like this: Audio Catalog (CH-FM-39) to protect the tube. Since the tube sits deeper in the case than in the pictures, the top won't protrude above the top of the cage.
You would need to use a solid top with vent holes rather than an expanded mesh top that a lot of us got from Waitrob, but it should protect the tube pretty well. When you want to change the tube, you can just unscrew the top ring with an allen key to get a good grip on the tube for replacement.
