I've now had my Stax SRS 2020 basic system for 1 month now. All what I can say is WOW! These phones sound really good, they have fantastic midrange and vocals. And bass is pretty good for an electrostatic.

For an electrostatic?

The one I heard had bad bass for an electrostatic, but still better than most dynamics.

I wish I can have a pair of speakers that sound very much like the K701. In terms of similar Midrange, vocals and detail etc.

I would try out some Magnepan/Magneplanar speakers if you haven't heard them. I had their 3as for years, and they have a sound somewhere between electrostatics and dynamics - huge soundstage and great mids and detail... reminds me of the 701s! You have to have a big room for them though -that's why I own 701s now instead - wife approved!

Guys, Ive been getting different opinions about amping the K701. Ok, first of all, I need a DAC and then an amp. Now, if I had not been a student abroad and constantly on the move, I would have bought a tube amp and some fancy DAC, however I don't really have the money now, and mobility would be a huge issue.

Lately, Ive been thinking to get the FiiO E7+E9 for my K701. Some people say it will not drive them well, very analytical sound, and stuff like that. My source is a Lenovo laptop with a horrible sound card. I need a portable DAC, and a solid amp to play my lossless music from my laptop.

My question is: Will the E7+E9 do the job, which is: provide a good DAC and amplification in order to make them sound at least descent? By descent I mean: experience a good part of the K701's soundstage, good detail throughout the whole range (mids especially), and make them a bit more warm-sounding? I am not expecting some High End Audiophile performance. (could you expect this anyway, with an expensive tube amp)

Any help is appreciated!
